Led by Jason Hodge, President, and business partners Dave Battle, Darren DeVore and Cliff Orr, SCI’s team has more than 100 years of combined experience in driving businesses to support growth and success. 

Through a strategic partnership with Battle Investment Group, a private investment management firm that specializes in the long-term expansion and success of enterprises and management teams operating in the North American defense/government, aerospace, industrial and communications markets, SCI benefits from increased capabilities, resources, and experience, magnifying its placement success rate.

Jason Hodge

President

Jason Hodge founded SCI in 2016 and today serves as president, leading the company’s vision and strategic direction. Jason also serves as the Director of Talent Acquisition for Battle Investment Group where he is responsible for providing proactive talent acquisition and human capital management strategies to the Firm, its portfolio companies, and its strategic partners.

Prior to founding SCI, Jason was founder and President of Radar Healthcare Providers, a staffing and human capital management firm that works with scientific, medical, and other high-skilled personnel throughout the United States. In August 2016, Radar was sold to a private equity firm. During its last year with Jason serving as President, the company achieved over 500 contractor and direct hire placements while servicing nearly 100 clients. Jason holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Georgia and resides in Athens, Georgia, with his wife Allison and children Elizabeth and Weston.

Kirby Harwell

Vice President – Public Sector

Kirby Harwell joined SCI in 2020. His efforts are focused on the firm’s operations, business development, and service functions within the public sector, primarily through SCI’s core recruiting competencies and as a small-business Subcontractor with government contracting firms.

Prior to working with SCI, Kirby’s experience spanned roles including Chief Operations Officer, Sr. Program Manager, and Consultant for various firms in the Government Services space, in both pre-bid and active stages of the contract cycle. His expertise and network across the Government agencies serve to bring substantial value to SCI’s clients and partners.

Kirby also served on active duty as an officer in the United States Marine Corps as an AH-1W “Super Cobra” attack pilot and most recently as a “Marine One” Pilot with HMX-1, the Presidential Helicopter Squadron in Washington, D.C. Kirby is a decorated combat pilot with multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the USMC Reserves where he supports Reserve Affairs in Quantico, VA.

Kirby possesses an active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance and has worked on multiple sensitive Government programs as a Program Manager while on active duty. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia (BBA -General Business, 2002), a master’s degree from Marshall University (MA – Leadership Studies, 2016), and an MBA from the University of Georgia, Terry College of Business (MBA 2021).

David Battle

Member, Board of Directors

In addition to serving on SCI’s Board of Directors, David Battle operates Battle Investment Group, a private investment management firm. He has spent his entire career working with small and mid-sized businesses to support their growth, expansion, and success. From 2006-2015, he was a principal at Metalmark Capital, a New York-based private investment firm, where he was focused on the defense/security, government, and industrial sectors. There he served on the board of directors of the following investments.

  • Airborne Systems – provider of parachutes, aerial delivery systems, and related products to the US/allied militaries and emergency response organizations.
  • HDT Global – provider of shelters, power/environmental control, and related equipment to the US/allied militaries and emergency response organizations.
  • Asynchrony Solutions – provider of software development services with a focus on mobile applications to commercial and government customers.
  • Schafer Corporation – provider of scientific, engineering, and technical services to government and commercial clientele.

Before joining Metalmark Capital, David served as an associate at JPMorgan Partners, a New York-based private investment firm, and as an analyst at Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co, a North Carolina-based investment banking firm. David’s educational background includes a BBA from the University of Georgia and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

David currently serves as Chairman of ARCTOS (www.arctos-us.com) and as a director of Metal Finishing Technologies (www.mftech.com), Oceus Networks (www.oceusnetworks.com), and Waterleaf International (www.waterleafinternational.com). In addition, David is also Chairman of the Corsair Society (www.corsairsociety.com), and a trustee of the University of Georgia Foundation (dar.uga.edu/uga_foundation).

Darren DeVore

Member, Board of Directors

In addition to serving on SCI’s Board of Directors, Darren DeVore is the Managing Partner of Broad Pine Investments, a holding company for various private equity and venture capital activities. Broad Pine has successfully formed, developed, and sold multiple businesses including Chicken Salad Chick Ventures, Terra Partners Logistics, and Terra Partners Holdings. Broad Pine maintains current investments in several businesses including ArunA Biomedical, North Cape Investments, The Carroll Organization, and Centennial Holdings Co. Darren also advises investment management firms on business strategy and execution.

Prior to the formation of Broad Pine Investments, Darren spent 14 years as a Managing Director of Artisan Partners L.P., a leading global investment management firm. While at Artisan Partners, he designed and implemented marketing and client strategies that grew the firm from $800 million to $65 billion in assets under management. Previously, Darren spent 13 years as Vice President at Pacific Financial Asset Management Corporation (presently known as PIMCO) where he performed various functions including launching the PIMCO subsidiary Blairlogie Capital Management, a Scottish investment firm based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Darren earned a BBA in finance from the University of Georgia where he currently serves as a member of the Terry College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and as an Emeritus trustee with the University of Georgia Foundation. Darren is also the founding board chairman of Mt. Bethel Christian Academy and served as a member of the Executive Committee for the 2017 USGA U.S. Open Championship at Erin Hills.

Cliff Orr

Member, Board of Directors

In addition to serving on SCI’s Board of Directors, Cliff Orr leads Battle Investment Group’s investment activities, including investment sourcing and transaction execution, and ultimately supporting the growth, expansion and success of the firm’s portfolio companies.

Cliff’s career has focused on small- and medium-sized business formation, investment and growth. His experience spans private equity and public markets, particularly enterprises with under $100 million revenue, and includes both public and private company board governance.

Prior to joining Battle Investment Group in 2016, Cliff served as senior vice president with Concourse Capital Management, an Atlanta-based alternative investment firm, as managing director with JAM Capital Partners, a private investment partnership focused on Southeast-based lower middle-market operating companies, as research analyst with Privet Fund Management, an alternative investment firm, and as vice president with Timbervest, a real estate private equity firm where he ran a portfolio of federally-regulated mitigation bank and agriculture-based operating investments.

Cliff began his career as a practicing attorney. Cliff earned an MBA with Distinction from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a JD and BBA, both magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia.

Cliff currently serves as a director of ARCTOS and Waterleaf International, and as chairman of BACE. Cliff previously served as a director of Rand Capital Corporation (NasdaqCM:RAND) and All Points Logistics. Additionally, Cliff serves on the national board of the American Enterprise Institute Enterprise Club and as an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. Cliff is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (inactive) and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
